Models and Props

Art Model

Art Models pose for studio classes including, but not limited to, figure drawing and painting, head drawing, costumed portraiture and sculpture classes. We hire a diverse variety of models, including models of varying ages, genders, physical looks and experience levels.

The College’s art models are hired as part-time, temporary, on-call basis. Temporary employees have variable hours and may work for a temporary period due to a short-term need and whose employment will automatically end when the College determines that the need for the employee’s services has ended.

FLSA status: Non-exempt


  • Must provide a minimum of two professional references from other higher learning institutions or professional artists
  • Must provide clear photographic images of body for reference (illustrations and/or sketches will not be accepted)

Qualifications

  • Previous professional experience as an art model, preferably at a higher level educational institution
  • Knowledge of how the art model demonstrates anatomy, gesture, or content in a drawing
  • Awareness of classic and traditional poses in the art tradition
  • Model must be physically able to provide a full range of body gestures and poses, from quick gestures to long, sustained poses
  • Must be able to hold sustained poses (up to 25 minutes)
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times
  • Dance and/or theatrical performance experience is preferred, but not required
  • Costuming, including period clothes, fantasy and contemporary fashion are a plus for our costumed models
  • Reliability and professionalism are essential


Essential Functions

  • Provide a full range of sustained poses (up to 25 minutes), as required by instructor, including gesture, character, quick sketch and anatomical poses
  • Demonstrate the flexibility and animation of the human formThe figurative model primarily poses nude (undraped); occasionally requested in Speedo or bikini

Mandatory Duty to Report

All employees who know or have reason to know of allegations or acts that violate ArtCenter’s Title IX Policy prohibiting discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual violence, dating violence, and stalking shall promptly inform the DHR Administrator and Title IX Coordinator, or designee or the Assistant Dean of Students or designee. Faculty with a mandatory duty to report are required to disclose all information including the names of the parties, even where the person has requested their name remain confidential.

Pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA), all employees who know of or have reason to suspect child abuse or neglect involving alleged victims under age 18 shall promptly inform local law enforcement or the county welfare department.


Physical Demands and Working Environment


The conditions herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a classroom studio setting. Due to the nature of the work, the work station is exposed to bondo, paint, and other artist supplies from studio rooms and direct contact with hazardous waste containers.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to sustain a full range of poses for up to 25 minutes. Involves constant physical effort that may include gesture, character and anatomical poses.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
