Director, Educational Partnerships

The Director of Educational Partnerships is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive hands-on engagement programs in alignment with ArtCenter's strategic plan that will generate revenue, position the College as a thought leader in Design Education and create forums for critical dialogue and exchange. This position will identify efficiencies and promote consistency across multi-functional offices and departments to ensure seamless experiences for outside partners and students alike.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Business, Public Relations, or Marketing from an accredited college or university
  • 3–5 years of corporate and/or educational work experience including corporate relations activities to understand corporate expectations and key differentiating aspects of each educational department
  • 2–3 years in managing a department, including budgeting, project management and supervisory responsibilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in order to communicate with executive leadership, staff and the campus community
  • Ability to problem solve, organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines; ability to work effectively both independently and within groups
  • Record of successful experience in partnering with academic and administrative departments
  • Ability to interact successfully with individuals with varying abilities, backgrounds, interests and beliefs
  • Ability to handle confidential information with tact and discretion and recognizes the confidential nature of ArtCenter business
  • Excellent user of Microsoft Office Suite and databases
  • Demonstrated experience in and a commitment to diversity, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities
  • Ability and willingness to travel local and out of state, work evenings and weekends as necessary, and to staff events

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field such as Business, Public Relations, or Marketing from an accredited college or university
  • Experience in higher education or complex non-profit environments
  • Interest or background in art and design

Essential Functions

Department Administrative Operations — 60%

  • General departmental oversight, overseeing the department budget, strategic planning, logistics, events, administrative support to implement operations
  • Provide administrative direction and coordination in the formulation, interpretation and administration of current and long-range policies, procedures and programs
  • Oversee recruitment, hiring, orientation, training and supervision of department’s faculty and staff; oversee performance evaluation process, ensuring consistent use of all applicable policies and procedures; counsel, discipline and make recommendations in terminations, as required
  • Manage the structuring and administration of the College’s Intellectual Property policies as they relate to all engagement programs, including a comprehensive IP education program for staff, faculty and students
  • Support the alignment and synergies between the offices of Educational Partnerships, Career and Professional Development
  • Establish clear goals, objectives and strategies for both optimizing existing programs and implementing new programs, including timing and budget recommendations
  • Develop and implement an internal orientation program to ensure that students, faculty and staff are aware of and understand the College’s various engagement programs
  • Continue the development of educational sponsorship matrix to engage partners in different ways at various funding levels, while achieving objectives both for ArtCenter and the sponsor
  • Partner with the VP of Professional Development and Industry Engagement and with educational leadership to create an updated matrix of sponsorship opportunities to meet a variety of interests and needs both internal and external; develop all relevant contracts and agreements
  • Collaborate with educational leadership and the Career and Professional Development Office to create and implement strategies to convert project sponsors into employers and vice-versa
  • Partner with the VP of Strategic Partnerships and the VP of Professional Development and Industry Engagement to leverage sponsored projects, executive education, and internships to maximize corporate engagement through multi-year financial support
  • Through the development of new collateral materials for all engagement programs, help position the College as a thought leader and an outstanding partner for corporations, nonprofit organizations and academic institutions
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Professional Development and Industry Engagement in the continued development of the assessment and reporting process showcasing the impact of the experience of Sponsored Projects for ArtCenter students, faculty and Industry Partners
  • Partner with the Vice President, Professional Development and Industry Engagement, to enhance student experience through engagement with outside partners and expose students to a broad range of industries, cultures, learning environments and professional practices
  • Work closely with ArtCenter legal counsel in the review and execution of all Sponsored Project, DesignStorm and Executive Education Agreements for the college — this includes all faculty and student participation agreements required within our sponsored programs
  • Oversee the Educational Partnerships website and annual EP INSIDER
  • Oversee the creation and execution of Sponsored Programs Participation Agreements

Educational Partnership and Sponsor Programs — 40%

  • Working closely with department chairs and faculty in establishing clear goals, objectives and strategies for both optimizing existing sponsored educational programs while exploring and implementing new programs, including timing and budget recommendations
  • Cultivate and development the management of an innovative and comprehensive engagement program for our students involving outside industry partners in DesignStorms, Executive Education workshops and Sponsored Projects built into the curriculum in studio courses
  • Facilitate the participation of the educational leadership and faculty in the cultivation and solicitation of support for and participation in engagement models, with particular attention to identifying new partners
  • Lead Educational Partnerships Oversight Committee (EPOC) meetings and oversee related activities
  • Develop and oversee the structuring of a presentation skills program for students participating in Sponsored Projects
  • Oversee all sponsored engagement programs each term including solicitation, contract negotiation, and sponsor participation

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting with frequent interruptions and distractions; extended periods of time viewing computer monitor; interactions with other individuals. Due to the nature of the work environment, there is regular exposure to fumes, dust and noise.

Physical: The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time, but may walk or stand for brief periods of time. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 20 pounds); to operate modern office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. International and Domestic travel by car and airline and overnight travel is required. Able to work nights and weekends to attend events.

Vision: Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, viewing a computer terminal and other normal office work with or without correction.

Hearing: Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal office communication or exchange ideas with or without correction.
