Graduate Graphic Design Program

Full Time Faculty, Transmedia Design

The Graphic Design Graduate Program at ArtCenter College of Design is looking for one full-time faculty member with a background in Transmedia design and interdisciplinary design exploring the current and emerging relationships between media, architecture and design to begin fall 2017.

Full-time faculty carry a workload including both teaching and departmental duties: per week, three 5-hour studio classes plus 3 faculty service hours for activities such as those listed below.

Full-time faculty are expected to contribute to the further evolution and visibility of the program by activities such as:

  • Work closely with students 
  • Help cultivate guest lectures, visiting designers, publications and student competitions
  • Help with student gallery, grad show and web content
  • Help create visibility and recognition for the program among prospective students, the design community, creative industries, and potential donors and sponsors
  • Maintain public profile through speaking engagements and publications

Candidates will be eligible for a full-time contract. Faculty will be expected to maintain an active professional or research practice. Salary will be commensurate with professional experience and teaching. This position is open both to existing faculty in the Graphic Design department as well as for external candidates.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in graphics from and accredited college or university or equivalent experience
  • Five years of college level teaching experience, especially in areas related to the ArtCenter’s programs or at least ten years of professional work within the transmedia/mediatecture design field
  • Experience with exploring the synergy of electronic media and the built environment
  • Ability to work with an emphasis on theory, research and practice embracing the intersection of culture and technology
  • Ability to employ a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to address the diverse learning needs of students
  • Ability to handle confidential student information with tact and discretion
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter’s diverse communities
