Biography

Jack Bankowsky is a critic, curator, and Editor-at-Large at Artforum. He served as Editor-in-Chief of Artforum from 1992 to 2003, and is the founding editor of Artforum''s sister publication, Bookforum, where he was editor from 1996 to 1998. His contemporary survey, "Pop Life" (co-curated with Alison Gingeras and Catherine Wood), opened at Tate Modern in the fall of 2009, and then traveled to the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the National Gallery of Canada. In 2014, his "Sculpture After Sculpture," an exhibition bringing together the work of Katharina Fritsch, Jeff Koons, and Charles Ray, opened at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm. A visiting scholar at Yale in the fall of 2004 and 2005, and at UCLA in the winter of 2009, Bankowsky has written extensively on contemporary art, including essays for museum surveys of the work of Richard Prince, Rachel Harrison, Louise Lawler, and most recently, GuytonWalker.
