Animation to Gaming: See ArtCenter alumni artists at first annual LightBox Expo

With the flick of a wrist (plus developed skills and a lot of effort), artists create colorful characters and worlds that suck in audiences all over the world.

Lucky for us, more than 250 of these top artists—including ArtCenter alumni—will showcase their work at the first annual three-day LightBox Expo (LBX) at the Pasadena Convention Center from Friday, September 6 to Sunday, September 8. The expo’s mission is to bring together the best artists in animation, gaming, live action film and television, and illustration for the ultimate celebration of art.

Co-sponsored by ArtCenter and a number of industry heavyweights, including DreamWorks, Riot Games, Sony Pictures Animation and Walt Disney Animation Studios, the expo offers portfolio reviews, instructed life drawing, panels, live demos, keynote speakers and other special programming.

The Concept Art Association will also hold its first annual Concept Art Awards, presented by LBX, at the expo on September 7. Marvel Studios Vice President of Visual Development Ryan Meinerding, an ArtCenter alum who studied in the Illustration Department, co-founded the association.

Here are 10 ArtCenter alumni—among many—who will be at the LightBox Expo with their vibrant and eye-catching work.
