ArtCenter College of Design

Former attorney and current industrial designer and faculty, Joel Delman will help alumni understand the basics of intellectual property protection. This workshop will review the baseline legal information on patents, trademarks and copyrights that you need to understand to protect yourself and your designs.

The focus of Joel’s work includes the development of compelling aesthetic solutions and brands, as well as the design of novel features, functionality, and business models which allow clients to engage user needs and capitalize on profitable market opportunities. He holds over 40 US design and utility patents, and serves as Chair of The Industrial Designers Society of America’s (IDSA) Design Protection Committee. Though no longer a practicing attorney, Joel provides litigation support and serves as a design expert witness in disputes involving design patent infringement, trade dress and associated intellectual property matters.

Joel’s expertise is in industrial design protection; however, all alums would find part of the workshop helpful.
