Come join cartoon historian Jerry Beck as he presents the works of United Productions of America, the most important animation studio of the 1950s. Based in L.A., UPA revolutionized the animation world forever with its modern, hyper-stylized graphics, and continues to maintain a powerful influence on contemporary motion design. The screening will include a selection of cartoons rarely seen in public.

Jerry Beck is a writer, animation producer and author of more than 15 books on animation history. He is a former studio exec with Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, was instrumental in launching Animation Magazine, co-founded Cartoon Brew and has written for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. He is also currently President of ASIFA-Hollywood.

This lecture is offered in conjunction with Michael Dooley's Humanities and Sciences course, "Design History of Comics and Animation," and is free and open to the public.
