Returning to Campus

Campus Safety and Operations

Due to the pandemic, ArtCenter’s campus is no longer open 24/7. Only authorized students, faculty and staff will be permitted on campus to facilitate teaching, learning and making; or to manage critical business services and infrastructure. Campus operations can continue only if everyone who comes to campus adheres to our health and safety protocols at all times.

Hours of Operation

Hours of Operations
Monday–Sunday: 7 a.m.–11 p.m.

Operating hours for makerspaces (labs, shops, etc.) will be determined for each area to meet demand and need. Those hours will be posted prior to the start of term and incorporated into this document in subsequent updates.

Please note that these operating hours are for ArtCenter's Hillside and South campuses in Pasadena.

On-Campus Access Protocols

Access to campus will require several steps for every person coming on campus and will only vary slightly based on the campus or building. Please allow additional time before your scheduled start time for screening and checking in with security.

Hillside Campus

  • Access at the front gate will require showing an ArtCenter ID badge, vendor access badge or vendor confirmed access email. Rideshare services will have a five-minute drop off/pick up window on campus and must check in and out at the gate.
  • An ArtCenter vehicle registration hang tag or visitor parking permit must be displayed and vehicles not displaying them will be subject to towing.
  • Access check-in will be done at the north and south entrances of the Ellwood building and may consist of the following steps:
  • Showing an ArtCenter ID badge, vendor ID/confirmed email.
  • Responding to health screening questions related to general well-being, signs of symptoms, COVID contact, etc.
  • Once screening is complete individuals will receive a daily access wristband or other clearance badge that must be exhibited while on campus.

South Campus

  • All parking will be open during business hours, however, no valet service will be offered. An ArtCenter vehicle registration hangtag must be displayed and vehicles not displaying them will be subject to towing.
  • Each building will have a check-in/out station set up within its lobby.
  • Access check-in may consist of the following steps:
  • Showing an ArtCenter ID Badge, vender id/confirmed email.
  • Responding to health screening questions related to general well-being, signs of symptoms, COVID contact, etc.
  • Once screening is complete individuals will receive a daily access wristband or other clearance badge that must be exhibited while on campus.

In general, we must all take responsibility for our own actions as well as be good citizens by looking out for others. If you see or notice any individual not following these protocols or showing symptoms of illness do not approach the individual. Instead, promptly report the situation to Campus Security immediately for appropriate handling.

Engineering Controls

  • Specialized ventilation systems are installed and will be utilized in specific shops, labs and makerspaces.
  • Dividers, walls, barriers and separation windows will be utilized and installed in identified areas to allow for layered protection.

  • HVAC exchange rates—the rate at which air is circulated within a room every hour—have been confirmed to meet indoor air quality standards.
  • Where applicable, HVAC systems have been outfitted with MERV 13 filters.
