Returning to Campus

Enforcing COVID-19 Protocols

ArtCenter is committed to providing a robust education to new and returning students—and a safe environment for all. To guide those few classes and activities taking place on campus, the College has issued a comprehensive plan to return to campus.

We also know that a solid plan cannot stand alone in the fight against COVID-19. Each and every one of us has to take personal responsibility to ensure that we are making smart choices in our personal lives, because those choices can impact community members at ArtCenter.

Together, we must all practice F – D – H – S: Face coverings, Distancing, Hygiene and Sanitation.

  • We highly recommend wearing a medical grade Face covering at all times while indoors;
  • We require a medical grade face covering to be worn:
  • if you have a vaccine exemption, or
  • for 10 days after isolation or quarantine, or
  • if you are a visitor who did not have proof of vaccination
  • Maintain a physical Distance from others or where a six-foot distance is marked in physical spaces;
  • Follow Hygiene protocols and wash your hands frequently throughout the day; and
  • Ensure that your workspaces are Sanitized and cleaned throughout the day.

Please refrain from moving any furniture within a classroom, office or other enclosed space. Furniture has been placed strategically in each setting to maintain an optimal distance from one another.

Reporting violations of guidelines and policies

Despite the importance of these prescribed safety measures, we understand not everyone will follow these guidelines, and that it can be difficult to tell others when they are not in compliance. We must remember that we are all citizens in the ArtCenter community and it’s okay to address non-compliance in a friendly and tactful way.

Respectful behavior

We ask that our community extend the highest level of respect, understanding and patience as we move through this next trial period. This includes respecting those who choose to wear a mask based on their own risk assessment without judgment, questioning or bullying.

Infractions and Enforcement

We realize that not every incident is a blatant disregard for the guidelines and policies, however, in order to make sure everyone is treated equally, all incidences will be treated in the following manner:

Any incident reported to or involving Campus Safety will result in the following:

  • The officer will tell the individual to comply with our safety protocols or leave campus.
  • The officer will make an incident report of the interaction noting the individual’s name, location, date, time and department.
  • The report will be distributed to the individual’s department supervisor or chair.
  • All reports will be reviewed weekly with the president, provost, chief administrative and financial officer, vice president of Human Resources and dean of students.

Individuals who are involved in an incident report will be required to complete the following before returning to campus:

  • Safety review with the Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management director.
  • Staff and faculty will meet with their department chair or department supervisor.
  • Students will meet with CSE.

Repeat violators will be subject to further disciplinary actions as per the Faculty, Employee and Student Handbooks.  These actions may include, but aren’t limited to, loss of on-campus access for the term.

Strict enforcement of our reopening guidelines, policies, procedures and protocols is required to maintain the safety of our community. We appreciate your understanding.
