Impressions is an interactive show that allows audiences to experience bits of my childhood through furniture, photographs, stories, and smell.

In the gallery is a dining table and chairs set from my childhood. The chairs are pulled out welcoming viewers to sit and interact with the work. Placed on the table are stories told by myself, my godmother, god siblings, and her elementary school teacher. These stories are told through writing printed on clear sticker vinyl stuck on photographs and old Chinese practice books. Accompanying the stories are traditional teapots, cups, and a bag of Taiwanese oolong tea. Each book contains a QR code that leads to audio recordings and English transcriptions of these recorded conversations.

Chinese workbooks, stories, the dining table, and traditional tea sets are big parts of my childhood memories of Taiwan. That table followed me to all ten houses my family and I have moved to. It is where I practiced my Chinese, listened to my parents tell their stories, and prepared tea for guests.
