Ryan Perez, who lives and works in Los Angeles, regards his art practice as the curious space of image making through the use of photography, video and various other image-based technologies. Influenced by 1980s post-punk and hip-hop, Perez was part of the 2015-16 exhibition “SECOND WAVE: Aesthetics of the 80s in Today’s Contemporary Art” at UC Riverside’s Culver Center of the Arts. His work has been exhibited in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA Special Projects), the Samuel Freeman Gallery, and the Control Room; and at Mexico City’s Yautepec Gallery, the C24 Gallery in New York, Alter Space in San Francisco, and at UC Riverside’s Sweeney Art Gallery and California Museum of Photography. Perez has also shared his expertise and vision through his work as a teaching artist at Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA), a non-profit organization offering academics, arts, and athletics to underserved youth.
