Elleni Sclavenitis is an artist, photographer and filmmaker whose practice operates at the intersection of art and documentary. Her work addresses historical lacuna, haunting and erasure in personal and collective narratives. Among her projects are Industrial Los Angeles, a web-based documentary using photography, writing and historical documents to explore the hidden city beneath its built and rebuilt environment; and “Winterreise,” a short video contemplating memory and disappearance in an urban Berlin neighborhood, set to part of the Schubert song cycle; and the short film “Contre Vents Et Marées," commemorating the massive 1961 protest of Paris’ curfew placed on Muslims and Algerians, and the violent governmental reaction to it. Sclavenitis also co-curated, and designed the website for “Knowledges,” a large-scale exhibition encompassing art installations, performances and screenings of films by L.A.-based artists.
