Takaaki Matsumoto is principal and president of Matsumoto Incorporated, a design consulting firm specializing in graphic and product design founded in 1987. Client roster includes the Cy Twombly Foundation, Fashion Institute of Technology, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Modern Art in New York, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, David Webb, Steuben, Simon & Schuster, Sazaby and Comme des Garçons in Tokyo. A native of Japan, Matsumoto came to the United States in 1974. Prior to Matsumoto Incorporated, he served as art director for Knoll International in New York from 1982 to 1987. Matsumoto has been recognized with numerous honors, including awards from AIGA, the Society of Typographic Arts, the Type Directors Club and the Art Directors Clubs of New York and Los Angeles. In 2003 and 2004, he received the American Alliance of Museums’ Grand Prize Award for museum publication design.
