“After Capitol, I decided to become a music producer, a promoter. I created a company called Pinnacle Productions. We hired these three groups—Grateful Dead, Buffalo Springfield and Blue Cheer—and created concerts at the Shrine with 4,000 people a night. Out of that came these concert posters. I drew the one of Jimi Hendrix from memory of pictures and recordings of him, and I structured his face based on all that info, done in a continuous tone. His hair looks electric because of his electric guitar, and guitar feedback. Hendrix was entirely different, with his own style, and totally unrestrained.”
