A civic media designer from Puerto Rico, Los Angeles-based María del Carmen Lamadrid is part of design and technology collaborative Super Community and teaches at Woodbury University’s School of Media, Culture and Design. During her studies at ArtCenter, Lamadrid made multiple visits to Uganda for her work with an immersive Designmatters UNICEF project involving sustainability, access and equity. She built the design and research side at the nonprofit LA Más, fostering collaborative social design methods as a way of working in L.A. and abroad, and created and co-led the Elysian Valley Knowledge Hubs, a housing-rights and landlord capacitation program. Lamadrid’s work has been featured in the book "Leap Dialogues: Career Pathways in Design for Social Innovation," the Inaugural Citizen Science conference, the III Biennale of Ibero-American Design, the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning; and the Mapping Social Design project at the University of Brighton.
