Where does ArtCenter College of Design’s name come from?

ArtCenter was established in an area near Downtown Los Angeles known as “The Art Center” for its proliferation of working artist studios, galleries and neighboring theatre. The Art Center School, as we were then known, began to award bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 1949 and changed its name to ArtCenter College of Design in 1965 to better reflect its role as a degree-granting institution.
