Brian Rea is an adjunct associate professor teaching Illustration Journalism and Op-Ed Illustration. He is the former Art Director of the Opinion Page of the New York Times and now runs his own studio practice in downtown Los Angeles producing drawings and paintings for books, murals, magazines, fashion and film projects. His illustration and animation work has received both gold and silver medals from the Society of Illustrators, The Society of Publication Designers and his work has been recognized by the American Illustration Annual, Communication Arts and the One Show. He has produced work for a variety of clients around the world including Apple, Penguin Books, The New Yorker, Wired, Airbnb, Herman Miller, Vanity Fair, Google and the New York Times where is the weekly illustrator for the Sunday Styles column Modern Love. He has lectured and conducted workshops around the world, taught at The School of Visual Arts, Parsons and The Maryland Institute College of Art and is a member of Alliance Graphique Internationale. His paintings and murals have been exhibited in Paris, Mexico City,New York, Seoul, Los Angeles and Barcelona at the The Fundació Joan Miró. Rea recently authored his first book, Death Wins a Goldfish, to be released Spring 2019 (Chronicle Books). He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, his son and his plants.
