Biography
Arden Stern is a design historian whose scholarship focuses on graphic design and visual culture in the United States from the 19th century through the present. Arden is currently an Assistant Professor of Humanities & Sciences at ArtCenter College of Design and has also served as Visiting Faculty in the Department of Anthropology at Wayne State University. Arden received a doctorate in Visual Studies from the University of California, Irvine, and a bachelor’s degree in Art-Semiotics from Brown University, and has been the recipient of research fellowships from the Winterthur Library and the American Antiquarian Society as well as ArtCenter's Samsung-endowed Faculty Enrichment Grant and the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography Educator Grant. Arden has contributed to various scholarly and journalistic publications, including the Design & Culture journal, Design Issues, and Print magazine.
