Rungsun "Sunny" Apinchapong



Sunny arrived in the United States in 1970, receiving his firstformal art instruction at Cal State University,  Los Angeles and ArtCenter College of Design, earning both B.A and M.A. degrees in fine art.

In 1977,  Sunny began four years as a scholarship student studying painting at the Sergei Bongart School of Art in Los Angeles and later worked as Mr. Bongart’s assistant in teaching at the L.A. school as well as at his Summer Workshops in Idaho.

From 1987–1990, Sunny worked and lived for an animation studio in Dublin, Ireland and also participated in local exhibitions including a one-man exhibition at the Polo-One Gallery. 

In 2005, fifteen years after moving back to the United States, Sunny was invited back to have another one-man exhibition, this time at the Oriel Gallery in Dublin, where he is still represented.

After spending 27 years working for a few major studios such as Disney, Dreamworks, and Sony Studios, and Don Bluth Studios. Worked on many feature films such as Land Before Time, All Dogs go to Heaven, Lion King, Pocahontas,Tarzan, Sharktales, Surf-up, Mulan and Frozen. Sunny has retired from the animation industry and returning to fine arts, teaching and gallery exhibitions

He has had several one-man exhibitions with the Frye Art Museum in Seattle, WA, and is represented by Morseburg Gallery,  Gallery Gabrie, the Oriel Gallery, and consistently participating with California Art Club on their annual Gold Medal Exhibition, he has won numerous awards for his paintings in regional competitions and held private workshops around the country.

In 2014, Sunny published his first book “Intuitive Painting, a retrospective”

Sunny is a Signature Member of California Art Club and also the member of Oil Painters of America.
