Course of Study

The IXD MDes is a one-year, fully online program built for designers who are ready to lead now. The curriculum is designed for early-to-mid-career professionals who want to move into senior and leadership roles, and for practitioners who need more than technical fluency to navigate a field undergoing unprecedented change.

Coursework is structured around four areas of focus: pluriversal research and design methods; advanced interaction technologies including AI and spatial computing; strategic design leadership; and design for impact. Together, they build the critical judgment, organizational fluency and expanded methodological range that distinguish leaders with the capacity to set direction and execute.

You'll design with and for AI as a deliberate, critically informed practice. You'll apply research frameworks that move beyond dominant paradigms, engaging communities and contexts that conventional methods overlook. And you'll develop the strategic thinking required to drive change at the institutional level inside companies, agencies, nonprofits and the systems that shape how people live.

We are one of the only graduate programs in this field to explicitly teach futurecasting as a creative practice. Foresight and strategy are integrated into the design process itself so graduates can anticipate and design for future change, not just respond to it.
