Acknowledged by campus community members for being a role model of interpersonal leadership, Fall 2022 Student Leadership Award winner Alejandro Sandoval (BFA 22 Illustration) empowered others through listening, learning, sharing resources and bringing people together.
“I bring what I learn back to the community, and connect people to each other,” said Sandoval in his personal statement for the award.
As director of student outreach and then as vice president of ArtCenter Student Government, as well as an Orientation Leader, a SLED Grant recipient, a member of Toastmasters, a mentee at DreamWorks, and a volunteer for Latino Film Institute’s Latinx In Animation, Sandoval sought to inspire joy and camaraderie through analog activities like a pen pal project, and digital experiences like an online trunk sale.
As an Illustration student and storyboard artist, he founded the Storyboarding Club as a place of acceptance, encouragement and support. The club’s mission statement reflects his own leadership style, summarized when Sandoval said, “It makes me happy to see others succeed.”
