Tony DeRosa began his career as an animator in 1981.
Mr. DeRosa completed his animation education at the world-renowned California Institute of the Arts and was immediately hired by Disney Studios to train under legendary animator Eric Larson. After assisting on numerous projects he completed his first animation on The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver and Company and then The Little Mermaid. His first role as supervising animator was on The Rescuers Down Under, supervising the character of Bernard. He was also one of the key animators for the Beast, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin, Aladdin. He supervised animation for the character Nala, The Lion King, Nakoma, Pocahontas, Zeus and Hera, Hercules, the Sprite, Fantasia 2000, and Moliere, Atlantis: The Lost Empire. Also, among his credits as animator are Treasure Planet and Home on the Range.
He then went on to supervise animation on Looney Tunes: Back in Action and Fat Albert: The Movie. He was the lead animator for George, Curious George and also animated on The Simpsons Movie. During this time Mr. DeRosa worked on many smaller and independent animation projects.
As supervising animator of Lawrence, The Princess and the Frog, he returned to Walt Disney Animation Studios and then went on to complete his work animating on Winnie the Pooh, Shademaker, Paperman, Get A Horse, Zootopia, Moana, Wreck it Ralph 2, Frozen2 and Disney's Short Circuit Program.
In 2004 he was an Annie Award nominee for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Character Animation. He also has been an invited lecturer and teacher at many learning institutions.
