It's been an extraordinary year of award-winning works, boundary-pushing initiatives and community-building events. As we reflect on the many accomplishments of 2024, we'd like to celebrate 10 big wins drawn from across our broad creative community.
This is by no means a comprehensive list, but an inspiring recap of a year where our talented students, faculty and alumni use their creative superpowers to shape a better future.

The Los Angeles Times unveiled the Best New Architecture Projects of 2024 — and ArtCenter's Mullin Transportation Design Center, a historic supersonic wind tunnel reinvented by Darin Johnstone Architects as a state-of-the-art space for learning and making, topped the list.
We celebrated the 20th anniversary of ArtCenter’s South Campus in grand fashion at Beyond Supersonic, a multi-faceted event that included our Design Invitational car show, student + alumni Art Market, and the unveiling of awe-inspiring learning spaces (see No. 1).
Legendary photographer Hirosihi Sugimoto (BFA 74 Photography) joined us for a powerful, intimate conversation to share insights into his craft, unmatched sense of light and sound advice. The event was accompanied by a micro-exhibition with an exclusive selection of his esoteric and immersive artworks.
Medar de la Cruz (BFA 16 Illustration) won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for illustrated journalism for Diary of a Rikers Island Library Worker centered around his series of evocative drawings depicting his deliveries of books to incarcerated people. (Bonus: Medar returned to ArtCenter for an intimate talk with students and was featured in our IdentificarX exhibition..
Creative Director Nadia Tzuo (BFA 2011 Graphic Design) earned an Emmy for the stunning opening sequence of Shōgun, drawing inspiration from ancient Japanese dry gardens. It was a rare back-to-back win as Nadia earned the same award for The Last of Us title sequence in 2023.
Emeline King (BS 83 Transportation) received presidential recognition for her groundbreaking, trailblazing work as the first Black female designer at Ford. Her portfolio includes the interior design of the 1994 Ford Mustang to the patented 15-inch wheel cover for the 1989 Thunderbird.
Seeing the Unseeable, part of Getty's landmark PST ART: Art & Science Collide, brought together 20 years of work from 16 artists + designers at the forefront of using data visualization as a springboard for creative expression and cultural critique. Our new podcast, the Why AxS, exploring the intersection of art + science, is also part of PST.
Our team of Game Design students won the Live Action Award at IndieCade 2024 Festival — our second consecutive win in the category — for ChromaCorp, an immersive game that pits employees against a corporate entity harvesting color in mysterious ways.
ArtCenter hosted the AICAD Symposium, an annual meeting of leaders and educators in specialized arts + design schools. Highlights included Dr. Safiya Noble’s keynote on algorithmic bias and our student-led panel on preparing the next generation of leaders.
New home of LA Clippers, the Intuit Dome, opened featuring site-specific art from two alums: Jennifer Steinkamp’s (BFA 89, MFA 91) animated artwork covers entire surface of the arena and Patrick Martinez's (BFA 05) neon sculpture lights the plaza.
