Letters are not isolated drawings — they form a connected system.

In Patterns of the Alphabet, participants will examine how letterforms relate to one another through structure, rhythm, and internal logic. Rather than designing letters individually, this workshop approaches the alphabet as an interconnected landscape where every form influences the next.

Through a combination of analog and digital exercises, attendees will experiment with pattern, consistency, and variation — developing a cohesive typographic system with clarity and character.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Develop a complete alphabet as a unified system of letterforms
  • Understand core principles of typographic systems, including structure, consistency, spacing, and internal logic
  • Learn methods for evaluating how letters function together — not just as individual forms, but as a coherent whole
