A pioneering force for Disneyland, ArtCenter alum and legendary Imagineer Bob Gurr (BS 52) helped bring Walt Disney’s most ambitious ideas to life, designing many of the groundbreaking ride systems that have come to define the modern theme park experience. A recipient of the Themed Entertainment Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 and ArtCenter’s Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022, Gurr is internationally recognized for a career that exemplifies creative innovation at the highest level.
On April 10, ArtCenter will present a special screening accompanied of the 2025 documentary Living by Design with an in-person introduction and Q&A with Gurr and the film’s director, Frank Woodward, on campus in Pasadena. Like the subject of our first ArtCenter Icons screening, Gurr’s legacy extends beyond any single design discipline, shaping a broader narrative of creativity that continues to generate impact, inspiration and awe.
